Early Oral Cancer Detection
Oral cancer is a disease that can affect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. While it is more likely to develop in older adults, it can affect people of all ages. This makes routine checkups important. The main objective of oral cancer screening is to detect the signs as early as possible for a better chance of a successful outcome.
Our dentists screen patients for cancerous and precancerous signs during every routine dental examination.
What Does Oral Cancer Screening Involve?
Your dentist will physically examine your jaw, neck, and face for signs of swelling, bumps, or lumps. They will also use diagnostic tools like the VELscope® to detect hidden abnormalities that may not be visible during a physical exam.
Oral cancer tests are a preventive measure. If further diagnosis is required, your dentist will refer you to a doctor or specialist.
